About Me
Raised in San Diego California in the 1950’s, Danny was
taught guitar by his dad, Johnny, a well known country,
jazz guitarist who performed with “Grande Ole Opry”
greats Johnny Cash and Tex Ritter. This early influence
was to become the foundation of Danny’s unique
funky, rhythmic playing style.
DANNY IIVEIS GUITAR, COHPOSING, ARRANGING] PROOUCHON
Danny joined his first band at age 13, taught guitar
at 16 and by age 18 was the cofounder of the 60’s
group Iron Butterfly. While playing at famed Sunset
strip clubs like, The Whiskey A Go Go, The Galaxy, and
The Troubador, he quickly earned the reputation of “great guitar player” by his
peers and many fans. He also caught the attention of music greats Ahmet Ertegan,
Paul Rothchild, AI Kooper and David Crosby, to name but a few. In 1968, he
accepted the offer to join Rothchild’s super group, Rhinoceros. This legendary R&B
band is perhaps best known for its funky instrumental hit “Apricot Brandy”,
co-written by Danny and featuring one of his trademark guitar licks,
often imitated but never duplicated.
In 1979, Danny appeared as Bette Midler’s guitarist in her hit film, “The Rose”.
He received Platinum and Gold albums for his work as bandleaderjguitarist for the
movie’s soundtrack.
Some of his musical credits including touring and recording with:
The Everly Bros, Burton Cummings, The Rascals, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper,
The Crusaders, Melissa Manchester, Funk Attack, The Lincolns
and The Toronto Mass Choir.
Danny has also been musical director for four L.A. Christian Centers over the last
15 years. He’considers it an honor to have worked with many top Gospel artists
such as Yolanda Adams, Morris Chapman, Shirley Ceasar, and Canadian artists
George Oliver, Deborah Klassen and Danny Brooks.
Now living in Canada, Danny is kept busy writing, playing, arranging and recording
his own projects, as well as those of other artists, from his home studio.
His first solo CD, “Sweet Spot”, from Marshmellow Records, released in May 2005,
melds original funky, R&B, and cool jazz cuts with well known standards.
