Minor Update to Terms of Use

Dear Mixters,

We have made a small update to our terms of use to give ccMixter the option to advocate for Attribution in some circumstances – for example, when someone outside our community claims to own the copyright to music created by ccMixter artists.

The following sentence has been added to our site Terms of Use.

“To protect the integrity of ccMixter’s library, ArtisTech Media has the option to assert your rights to Attribution on your behalf.”

If you have questions, email the admins or post here.

I myself have had the experience of a YT video I made, using ccMixter music by Kara — and me — getting claimed by an automated music farm that had simply harvested a bunch of CC-licensed stuff and started striking at random.

Hope this can prevent, or at least hinder, that…

Yes mwic, these terms help us be able to work on getting that false claim released.

Please send links to the video or album that has claimed ownership and then link(s) to the track(s) that have been falsely claimed — then we can try to restore CC licenses and Attribution. It’s not an easy process, but this is a start!

It was years ago, and already resolved. I just thought people might like hearing the story, to illustrate the need for this change.

Oh gosh! I did see some YouTube stuff that got some of my tracks, too! :( Sigh

If you give us links to the videos and your track link here at ccMixter we can try to help!

I’ve seen several YT videos of some of my music, including some of my Secret Mixter stuff with other ccMixter artists. A few of them didn’t even have any attribution, one of them was even spelled wrong. Thing that pisses me off most is some of those songs weren’t on Dig!

Hey Whitewolf,

When you see things like this in the future, let admins know and we’ll try to help!

Makes sense to me, as I’ve had problems with copyright theft in the past. In one case, some of my music was stolen and sold on iTunes and Amazon. I was struggling to get it taken down myself, but the ccm admin team helped a lot and sorted it all out.

Actually, I have a current issue with another track. This time, I was able to get it taken down from YouTube and Spotify, but the thief still has the ISRC and TrackID registered to them. Any help with this would be welcome!
