Anyone have any good tips for downsizing tracks for the purposes of ZIP files without causing significant quality loss?

*meow* Being new here, I don’t know the significance of ZIP files in terms of how they are used in relation to the mixes. If you want lossless compression for wav files you can use flac as a compressor. IIRC, you can get about a 2 to 1 savings. This will still result in large files if you are sending multi track projects around. I will try and check out how ZIPs are used here and see if I can find a better answer for you. I do think a flac compression of a wav file will give you smaller files and a zip of the same file as flac is designed with audio in mind. Also note. It is entirely possible that when ZIPping pre-compressed files, the zip will be larger than the file being re-compressed. You might want to watch out for that effect. all the best, drew |
