I just checked that song out. It sounds really interesting. Also, those small similarities are quite interesting. My guess would be that both songs were arranged with the goal, to combine something orchestra-like with a more modern feel.
I don’t know about Bob Geldof, but when I arranged this, it was mainly created by experimenting with different patterns and instruments until it sounded right. ;)
