I did it all on Live. At first, all the loops were stretched to fit. Then I created some variations, like ever-repeating machine-gun bassdrums and snares to use on breaks. You can use volume envelopes to actually program new beats this way, it’s quite simple.

The rest was done basically layering the beats together, again using looped volume envelopes to clean out the unwanted hits and adding a nice dose of compression to make it tight. I’ll upload a construction kit for this. :)

Now that’s a fine writeup, really. I generally don’t use the legato setting, I’ll try it your way to see how it goes. Live is so fscking flexible that everyone has his/her own way with it. :)
