Just did some listening to Portishead and I agree: there are definitely parallels. I have to admit that this genre got by me completely. At the time I was diving deep into Americana (Sturgill Simpson, Drive-by Truckers,Steve Earle). I’m looking forward to listening to some “new-to-me” artists.

My personal favorite mid-90s trip hop record is Smoke City’s “Flying Away”.

I’m also pretty late to this party. In the actual mid-90s I was all about Phish, Medeski Martin & Wood, that sort of thing.

I just checked out Morcheeba (Big Calm) and they had me with just the album art.

Love that album. Every track is as good or better than the last.
