What a beautiful and sensitive mixture of tracks! Thank you for using this piece. There are so many ‘happy accidents’ that happen on this site and this track was no exception. From the first notes of the track I was strongly reminded of I’ll fly away a spiritual hymn from my earlier years which was also one of my father’s (the one mentioned in the poem) favorite hymns. He had always loved that song and with his long, painful battle with heart disease the song I’ll fly away was both a welcomed comfort and a source of steely resolve to ‘stick around’. I say all that to say… Thank you! Just for interest sake the lyrics are below:
Some glad morning when this life is o’er, I’ll fly away; To a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away. CHORUS: I’ll fly away, O glory, I’ll fly away; When I die, Hallelujah, by and by, I’ll fly away. When the shadows of this life have grown, I’ll fly away; Like a bird from prison bars has flown, I’ll fly away. Just a few more weary days and then, I’ll fly away; To a land where joys shall never end, I’ll fly away. LYRICS AS REPRINTED IN “ALBERT E. BRUMLEY’S OLDE CAMP MEETIN’ SONGS,” Camdenton, Missouri, 1971, p. 11; © 1932, renewed 1960 Albert E. Brumley and Sons. |
