cicadas (ft. Gurdonark)

What a joy it was being paired with Gurdonark! Last year I’d half-written a poem about cicadas which I thought would go well with Gurdonark’s Insect Love but the project came to a standstill. Secret Mixter was the impetus I needed. I thought I’d try and mix two more of Gurdonark’s unique compositions as well. (One particularly beautiful piano piece just wouldn’t fit but it sparked a kind of lullaby which I’ll upload later.) There’s an instrumental version and the stand-alone poem in the zipfile.
I made field recordings of different types of cicadas in 2008 & 2012 in Japan which blended seamlessly with Gurdonark’s quirky compositions and together they brought back memories and the poem completed itself – probably something entirely different from everyone else’s interpretation of Secret Sky – but I’m very happy with the result. Thanks Gurdonark for your individuality and prolific uploads!
