In celebration of my 100th music production livestream (aka, the Vaporslime Workshop), I decided to give myself an extra hour this week, but the catch is that I need to record an entire song, vocals and all.
I wrote this song last winter to express some frustration at a particular music influencer that irritates me, but since diss tracks aren’t really my thing, the song is more broadly about musical gatekeepers, and the people who work to keep you excluded from the cool club. Lyrics: I’ve only got one head, I’ve only got two hands, Mr Filter, Here’s to you, I’m doing all I can, This is the most I have, Mr Filter, here’s to you Well it took a thousand hours to get here And then you took a thousand more Here’s another thousand hours For a chance to try again, Here’s to you Here’s to you I can only stretch so far, I can only climb so high Mr Filter, here’s to you What a sad waste of time, it’s the story of my life, Mr Filter, here’s to you So you wrote a thousand pages to shut me out And then you took a thousand more Here’s another thousand reasons you should Keep me in my place, Here’s to you Here’s to you So you drew the line right after your own height And you use it to make everyone small Well here’s a thousand tiny people and we’d like To have a word, Here’s to you Here’s to you
