There was a time when lovers would send messages to each other, carried by young children. Later there would be the Royal Mail that would be entrusted with the secrets of the heart. The excitement of recognising the handwriting and then the opening of the envelope and devouring of the words. Then someone invented the Text app which allowed us to ramble our replies in a few words. If this was not enough a man called Jobs gave us the Smart Phone which very quickly overtook our lives and let us instantly share our world with the world. Words that later may be regretted travelled across the globe in an instant and images that we did not intend everyone to see became quickly available to one and all. Everyone became available to everyone else and there was no hiding place. But no amount of technology could repair a broken heart.

Walking on the seashore feet in the foam
Looking for completion and a way back home
Hiding in my memories and grappling with the past
Its better to be humble when you’re trying to get back

Hearts in the open words out on show
Trying to be honest because everybody knows
There’s a dog in the manger and he’s ready now to leave
Gonna take you with him it’s so hard to believe

I can hear the distance getting pressed by the time
And fourteen hundred reasons why this should be a crime
So defend yourself if need be it’s the least you can do
As you offer up solutions for the hearts that are bruised
