Adjectives aren’t quite enough to review this, so I have to rely on feeling. I’m stunned by the beauty & sonority and grateful for the reminder.

Note: I considered carefully that the small part of my sample used is very short & a minor accent in a major piece. Hopefully there won’t be a controversy over this detail.

I know just what panu means, I can never write anything remotely accurate to describe what I get from listening to any annabloom piece. The references and implementation of theory are often beyond my limited knowledge but as someone once said (I can’t remember who said it, some old jazz cat) ‘If it feels good it is good.’ And it always feels real good to me.

So very richly textured. The layers are exquisitely placed and the movement of the track is perfectly paced. Bravo and congrats on a well-deserved ed pick.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Sun Ra lately; often casual listeners don’t realize how many of the parts and arrangements were carefully written out for the Arkestra members performing his pieces, and assume that there was just a lot of free improvisation going on- while this piece is certainly more “naked” in terms of its careful construction, I still think Saturn’s favorite bandleader would’ve appreciated where it goes and what it says. Well-deserved Ed Pick
