Xmas Trees Aint getting Shorter Mk2 A Cappella

I wrote this song for last Christmas but I thought it was worth reworking after my son wanted to be involved in uploading some source.
There are two files; wet and dry.
My son is currently remixing the vox with him on jazz guitar and me on honkytonk piano. Should be ready to post tonight with the individual files.
Meanwhile here’s the pella to play with.

Its about rediscovering the joy of christmas as a cynical grumpy old man.

Xmas Trees Aint getting Shorter

It came upon a midnight clear
as I sat real quiet
drinking Santas beer
cause I’m not as bright this time of year
now I am growing older
by the year

Well the ribbons all wrapped around that tree
but as I grew taller
it was not for me
I once believed in Santa Claus
and lookn for the prints
of the reindeer paws

But Oh
its a silent night
but not feel’n right…
ho ho…

I’d turned myself into some kind of grinch
no nutmeg in my eggnog
not a pinch
As the years rolled by
it ‘came such a cinch
as the Chistmas tree
shrunk inch by inch.

But no!
now the cold wind blows
ho ho…
hope that no one knows)

But then I think about
a friend next door
and his pretty little girl
whose turn’n four
rememebering how
it was before
when I used to nail the mistletoe above your door

But oh
I’ve been hardened so…
Oh no!
it begins to snow!

And then I hear the bells and the carols clear
from that little Christmas angel in my ear;
I stand right up
I shed a tear
cause theres no use feeling grumpy this time of year
Its a sign!
now I’m feeling fine
for some family time
plugging Santas line…

just ask my daughter
As I look right down to the things I bought her
the thaw is coming early
and I think it oughta
