Sampling, Mashing, Sharing
What it was:
A contest to sample Creative Commons licensed tracks from THE WIRED CD -- Rip. Mix. Sample. Mash. Share.
The Fine Art of Sampling Contest built upon the CD, featuring tracks licensed under the Sampling licenses, giving you the right to rip, sample, mash, and share, without legal hassle.
There were two entry categories:
The Freestyle Mix Contest
Entrants in the Freestyle mix selected samples from any of the remaining fifteen tracks on the WIRED CD. The top 11 entries in the Freestyle Mix will go on the Creative Commons release THE WIRED CD: Ripped. Sampled. Mashed. Shared. to be promoted at the M3 Music Summit, South by Southwest music festival, the World Social Forum, Ready to Share, and the Creative Commons web site, among other places.
The Militia Mix Contest
Entrants in the Militia Mix used track 11 from the Wired CD, "No Meaning No," by Chuck D and the Fine Arts Militia, took samples from it, and combined them with their own creativity. The one best entry will be on the next Fine Arts Militia album, to be released in the spring.
