This is a live remix of "The Captain Is Mad" by Madam Snowflake.
I used the generative music software Midinious with real instruments and a loopstation for the voice.
video:
https://youtu.be/Y1lyZyAOnwk
The frame rate dropped somehow, but you can see the software in action.
Instruments:
Boos RC-505 loop
Novation MiniNova
Elektron Syntakt
Arturia MicroFreak
Behringer Crave

Strange Contemplations

Based on the pom by PorchCat

I started off with a psytrance like start, to go over in a sitar based edm thingy to go straight to an ending of rock mixed with synth sounds. My master limiter went wild, it started off with about -9 LUFS and in in the rock part it got all the way to -4.5 LUFS, practicly it would not sound at all i think, but i listened outloud and on headphones and it sounded ok in my opinion. For the Sitar i used two instances of the NN-XT sampler in Reason, for the guitars i used Hellraiser vst. Other used vst's Sylenth1, Vital, Phoscyon and a bunch of FX vst's....

Stems included

Enjoy!!!

I had to source from Zep Hurme's page since I couldn't find the original vocals here.

This is an oldie but a goodie. I'm not sure why Frank and I never pursued getting this released because it's solid. Wouldn't be anything without the glorious voice of Frank Carter III. Frank was proud of this one. I will miss you Frank and your eternal optimism.

It's fair to say that Frank (songboy3) taught me everything about the creation of drum and bass.

It's not a genre I had ever mixed in or fully liked and like all things there is the lore of unwritten rules, of which kick drum etc should be used, which I never got.(... still don't)

But anyway it was a useful learning curve and I get it now, sort of, maybe. By listening to a lot of his collaborations with artists across the world, I managed to curtail my natural instincts and urges to add certain things and just let it be.

This R & B vocal has been sitting on the site 16 years, he would be chair dancing ( his phrase) I know , to hear it in this type of arrangement.

Hopefully he will get to hear and experience it in some sort of transcendental, spiritual way.

Frank Carter III, Sept 1967-June 2026.( Songboy3)

Songboy3 Pell

This is without doubt the most difficult remix I have done. On Tuesday 9th June 2026, a true friend, amazing musician and vocalist passed away .

I first remixed Franks amazing voice on ccMixter in 2007, a mere 19 years ago. From that point we corresponded weekly and a close friendship developed born out of CC Mixter. We met twice in that time, once in New York, a meeting conjured by, Victor ( AKA Fourstones) the architect behind the foundation of ccMixter, and another in the UK when he came to the UK to perform live at Fabrik in London. Covid prevented an opportunity for us to spend two weeks writing together in the UK in 2020 and whilst we persevered with that idea, Franks health cruelly began to become an issue. Not that he ever once let that be a limiting problem for him, so much was his enthusiasm and love of the want to make music.

So with another ccMixter Lasswell, we developed a Whats App group, shared ideas, our life stories, humour, trials and tribulations and of course musical creations. From basic ideas to fully finished songs. When my own health hit some serious issues a year back, Frank was there almost daily, offering anecdotes of his own life philosophies, encouragement to recover, love and care, all from 3500 miles away. My physical situation prevented me from finishing so much of the work we had started, but Frank was undaunted by any mountain and his belief that one day everything would be released was inspiring.Just listening now to tracks we had done and remixes here has brought tears on several occasions.

This track, Baby Pop Blues, was a vocal we made in November 2025 and sent to me in his effort to get me working again during my recovery. It worked and a rough demo of it was done by Xmas 2025. At the start of 2026 Frank as usual would outline his optimistic plans for the year, releases, new songs, finishing tracks, sadly they didnt happen.

If you want to know Frank, then he is is present in every note he ever sang. A natural soulful tone, full of expression, joy and hope. His lyrics were often bitter sweet of lost love, or reflective of a troubled world. They are the qualities that made him one of the most remixed Vocalists on CC Mixter and coveted in the Drum and Bass world, to which he played a well known part of.

I am happy to be giving back a part of Frank to CC Mixter in this track and vocal stem. It's the place where we met and one that helped to shine a light on his great singing voice, enabling so many other people to discover him and enjoy creating new works with his gift, and natural born talent.

I am lucky to have met him, to have so many years of correspondence to look back upon, and a wealth of joint musical creations that somehow will find the light of day.

I wish I had the chance to try again,
But it seems to me this chapter has reached the end,
And all I can do, is sit here and sing, these Baby Pop Blues.'
