Beautiful work - very haunting, you definitely did the vocals justice!

Oh man am I ever torn here. The backing track is so good. I mean it is so bloody good.

For my taste though there are times when the vocals don’t fit as well which given the rest of the production makes it stand out.

But the backing track is outstanding, both composition and production-wise, so that makes me a happy guy.

Any way you could upload the instrumentals separately?

yea, I was having problems with that too. do me a huge favor and listen again (I re-uploaded a tighter version)and see if that works better for you

regarding the stems, it really is just the four samples from here:

drums - Bucky Jonson
guitar - pitx
cello - nurykabe (Morusque)
bass - queeniemusic

What you hear in the first 8 is pretty much it. I obviously did a couple hours of engineering and that’s what you want me to upload np at all, just didn’t think my tweeks would be that useful in another context.

Hardly a huge favour since it’s such an excellent track. I wish I had saved the previous version to say specifically what’s better - all I can say is that it sounds great now.

But here’s the “micro-anal” part of the comment. Bear with me. :)

The one word in particular that stands out for me is the “face” part of “rain falls hard on my face”. If you listen to the second time the phrase appears (around at the mid-point of the track) it’s “rain falls hard all night long” - and the “long” part falls more naturally in the harmony.

Phew. :)

Re: instrumentals - thanks for the breakdown - I’ll figure it out.

thanks for the compliments and feedback. I lined the vocals up better this time.

regarding the 2 verses you point out it’s a perception thing because essentially it’s the same backing in both cases. the 2nd time I mask the tension a little with a guitar note but harmonically there’s no difference ;)

Sorry - not a comment about the backing, but about the vocals. Rebecca sings a different note in the two verses at that point, and it just blends better the second time around.

oh, yea - there’s that… helps if I un-mute the vocals. sheesh, it only sucks a little I didn’t catch a minor 9th.

thanks, fixed and re-re-uploaded.

No - thank you. It’s like having a track custom-made for me - only without having to do any work. :)

I really like the simplicity but at the same time genius style of this…This deserves and E.P. in my humble opinion. Nice approach!

here’s the deal por moi. this is like being lucky enough to to be in the right club, at the right time, to hear the right players change your mindset about how to do it. i’m stoked, & don’t need a refund.

I did not hear the other version, but i am enjoying this one.
What program are you using on this? Did you do anything to her vocals?
Did you have to pitch the music to her or did you pitch her to the music?
The reason why i’m asking is, i hope to be buying Auto tune or Melodyne in the next few days.
Haven’t made up my mind as to which one i plan on buying as of yet.

Sounds good to me.

Ableton Live, Waves SSL and SoundToys

Quote: Did you do anything to her vocals?

Just the normal compression, echo stuff. I actually think I should have made it warmer. It’s a little harsh. I should have at least de-essed.

I only pitch vocals as a last resort and this time I did not have to do any re-pitching. I re-pitched and stretched everything else around them. That stuff is built into Ableton and the pitching stuff isn’t brilliant but it’s just fine - it took me a while to learn how to get rid of the stretching artifacts in all cases.

I have anteres auto-tune but I’ve heard miraculous things about melodyne. But I don’t think I ever used auto-tune for actually re-pitching, just fixing vocals that were just plain out of tune - which, it does shockingly well. I haven’t used it in years. I worked with a singer a few years ago and they needed a lot of pitch correction and it was invaluable. I think there are demos of both.

I’m currently working with a rapper/singer who is a better rapper than singer. He’s very convinced that singing is his strong suit. I guess it’s a work in progress. With people like Kanye West, Lil Wayne & T (a) Pain ( in my ass) using Auto tune, it’s all the rage. I hate to jump on a fad just because everyone else is doing it. My luck, i’ll use it with this one artist and it’ll just sit.
Thanks for the input.
Again NICE MIX.

What a brilliant interpretation of disparate elements. This remix evokes the feeling of a rainy day just as the title promises.

great bass line and use of the guitar samples. really gives the lyrics a great setting.
