Wow, powerful, I love this. It’s in a similar vein to Bonnie Prince Billy, who I’m a big fan of

Thanks for the review. The song is not for everyone but sometimes I like the heart to have it’s way!

Listened to Bonnie Prince Billy and I loved his stuff so thanks for the pointer.

I particularly liked the story I read that told of how Johnny Cash had recorded one of his songs and Rick Rubin had asked Billie to play piano in a concert that Cash was performing.

Despite not being able to play piano Billy accepted!!

So you hadn’t heard of Bonnie Prince Billy before? That’s great, I’m glad I’ve had this opportunity to make him a part of someone else’s life too! I didn’t know about the Johnny Cash story - fantastic! I’ve seen him live a couple of times, which was awesome - if you ever get the chance, definitely go along and check him out. If I had to recommend just one album to you it would be ‘ Master and Everyone’ - the whole album is stripped back and acoustic, jaw-droppingly beautiful.

Pretty powerful. Kind of reminds me a bit of Dylan’s “Hollis Brown” although they’re not similar at all! Just wondered how you wrote this: did you have the lyrics already done or did you write them for the solo guitar piece? Listening to your voice put me in mind of Timberman—similar tone (Timbreman?!).

I’m from the John Denver school of songwriting!

What I mean is that John Denver when asked about his songwriting process always said he never deliberately sat down to write anything but just happened to be in the right place to pick the tune and words out of the air as they passed him by.

I always like to listen to your samples as they seem to go somewhere far beyond just a few bars played on a guitar and I often start singing along with whatever comes to mind. The words were influenced by my having been reminded recently of a friend of mine who some years ago decided he had had enough of the living game and just left his home only to be found later washed up on some distant shore.

Hi and many thanks for this. Mmm, that’s a poignant backstory—I kinda guessed there was something like that behind the song as it delivers a heavy emotional punch (in an understated, less-is-more way). Kudos for offering something from the heart, and for working with this guitar track.
