Right before seeing your mix I was trying to e-mail my State Senator regarding a new bill in our Commonwealth (you gotta love a government where a lawyer admitted to the Bar of a geo-political unit isn’t even sure what it is called, but I digress) in an effort to be pro-active and local in my activism. Of course, due to a technical error, my e-mail never was sent despite a good 15 minutes of trying to get it to go.
Seems to me this is the metaphor of social action in this country. We’re all ready to take the charge provided someone puts us on the starting line and says “go” - but if we have to train, and equip ourselves with knowledge and armaments (spiritual ones, I don’t advocate armed insurgence) we’re going to go back to yelling at our computer screens and TV’s which don’t do anything worthwhile except not yell back.
I hope your message is heard and heeded. I too am tired of getting sold a pitch and long for something to look up to in government. I don’t blame individuals, I think the problem is systemic and needs a dose of medicine that pumps through all the blood that feeds the machine.
Well done :-).
For the record I live and practice law in Pennsylvania in the United States. Pennsylvania is known as “the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania”, but we do have State Senators and Representatives. I find this confusing but I suppose it’s my fault because I bother to think :-).
Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment. Glad to hear you talk about systemic change rather than just blame for individuals. I’m hoping that people will get that about the song and not just dismiss it as a cheap attack.
I appreciate your sharing.
