One thing that most `PC musicians’ i hear have not got and lack is a relationship to a real vocalist. They have possibly never accompanied a singer or written their own lyric , sung it or arranged it, for themselves or others.
Often the lyric has nothing to do with their musical creation as the vocal WAV is nothing but a free entry to an upload ` a paste on ’ as somebody recently said. My image of a lyric, the delivery, the voice is what shapes the music. It chooses me not the other way around. It does not have to be smooth, pretty , jazzy ect there are no rules but it should do something with it as if it were a part of the picture. And here is the perfect example of that in practice. The vocal choosing its particular setting and conveying its meaning to someone who has the skill to deliver a composite picture to, effectively and emotionally, beautifully support it. Classwell as always |

I’m certainly guilty of this but on the other hand the vocal can also be shaped to music…and there are certainly enough vocals on the site to have a musical piece convey a message that you want, even if the vocals are sitting there for you in one continuous piece. Since vocalists rarely post the key…I basically have to trust my ear and work from there. I think it can work well both ways honestly…but I wish I had the skill/knowledge to produce an accompaniment like yourself, Lass and Spirit of Light…you all set the bar very high. Great to listen to though for those aspiring to become better.

In agreement again, the reply to RT is equally apllicable. Like in your recent mix you have taken a vocal part from Kaer trouz and made it your own.

Your right the vox should always make the connection first but the fun for me is taking that vox and manipulating the pitch, Bpm, formant etc to create something more individual from the pella supplied.

it does say does it not: `no rules but it should do something with it as if it were a part of the picture.’
your so easy RT :-) |

Just beautiful. LS makes some great points about the vocals and while it feels a bit strong for some approaches, this mix is definitely accompaniment. Very smooth, basic and straight up enjoyable. Though mixters often seem to be posing what could’ve been the ‘original’ track up here, this really feels authentic to the pella, or it this case you’ve got the perfect small club trio backing a wonderful singer. Excellent, wonderful, marvelous.

Too much Lass-jazz? Never :-). You do really do the club/live feel exceptionally well (that’s after you’ve nailed the music, etc) We should all do the things we do so proficiently when we are under the influence ;-).
I was thinking after I heard the first couple of notes on this one that mixter should do a page of mystery mixes where they ask the listener to guess who the mixer is. You’d give yourself away a lot of the time, but I’m sure you could completely surprise us too. |

I first heard this while I was traveling on business last week. Was awestruck right away, and am finally getting around to comment.
However I’m running out of words of admiration for your work. This is masterful while understated - superb musicianship oozing from the chording, the arrangement, the piano playing and the production. All is wrapped around the vocal track with the single purpose of making it shine. Mission accomplished I would say! |

What can I say that others haven’t, other than the first words that came to mind on first hearing this (and having read the title): “Glazed, yet heartfelt regret”…

Superb harmonies and a beautiful production. And I think you were right to leave out the big string sound.
In vino veritas ;) |

I just love them “Hornsbyesque” (is that a word?)chords near to death. And thank you, ol pal, fer gettin it (IMHO)right. These here lyrics is sad and doin it at 60bpm puts the “hurt” on it. Just beautiful.

Such a nuanced and delicate production of an excellent song. It is times like this when I’m humbled and feel the need to go shed. It just makes me want to be better at what I love to do. Lasswell, you know I think you & so many other folks on CCMixter are amazing and once again, you give proof to why I feel that way…Whew!
