Very dark piece this and one that definitely gets under the skin and starts the tingles.

Haven’t listened to the samples so I’m not sure where it all comes from but its a very tasty mix - if a little frightening!

Thanks. :)

The teru track is a big part of my version - and then I put a bunch of drums/glitchy sounds on top. I also very drastically manipulated the Pitx guitar sample - the choppy effect comes from slowing down using, umm, inelegant methods. :)

Thanks for leaving a review.

I can live with that bias.

I took some liberties with the very excellent source materials on this one - so I’m glad you liked.

world-class illbient ‘cause we got our best people on it. it’s so good i think it will surely be a hit on the int’l space station, & it will be played many times on the lunar module here in hotlanta.

Funny you mention space. I was more shooting for being a hit with the underground mole people. I want to be on their good side in time for when they take over.

Thanks PM.

Thanks! I love the vocal work too - I think it gave the track a bit more warmth. Thanks for leaving a review!

The Heat Wave is such a fine piece of writing, beautifully read, that it obviously works its way into the imagination of wonderfully creative people. The sweetness of SJ’s voice in contrast to the musical communication of something strange and ominous watching from the trees is exceptional.

Yes - I love the contrast - without SJ’s vocals the whole thing would be too sterile and too harsh.

Thanks for your very nice review. Much appreciated.

I think this track would be suitable when reading William Gibson’s Neuromancer. :)

I’ll try that. I’ve had it sitting on my desk at home for a year and haven’t opened it yet. This could be a good excuse. :)

The exploration of discomfort. Tense yet beautiful like being transfixed watching an intricately patterned snake emerge from the underbrush, only to recognize that the snake is benign. You transformed the source material into something completly your own, and the creepy whispering voice in the beginning (it was not until after I listened several times that I recognized the voice said — “music, you just gotta listen” — love that!) that contributes to the ominous tone is neutralized by the clear, sweet piano at the end.

Thanks for mixing me up in here (and I am so pleased to be in such good company!)

Thank you for leaving a review, and than you more for your original upload.

I mentioned above that your vocals really gave a human warmth to this track - without it it would have been a cold thing, but with it it ends on an optimistic note.

Really glad you enjoyed. Thanks again.

That was what I liked about this colab track. How it started off dark to end on a hopeful note.

I’m surprised with the transformations that you have made with the sources and the ambient you manage in this mix. It’s a one step ahead of the illbient.
Ah! And thanks for using b.r. newly -an inexhaustible spring of inspiration, modesty apart- :)

Thank you again. I thought I went too far in messing with your guitar - but that’s where the track led me, and who am I to argue when that happens? :)

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.

The backings are great. Sackjo22_s voice is lovely, but this time I think it doesn_t suit so well for my very personal taste(not meant as an offend to Sackjo22, she is a wonderful vocalist). Maybe you intended to have a strong opposite between music and vocals.

Surprising and really good piano theme at the end. Could have been a sort of bridge that takes the song to a different place…

“the choppy effect comes from slowing down using, umm, inelegant methods. :)” If I were a drumloop, sample etc. I wished I_d never would find myself on your harddrive,…

It’s true - I wanted a strong contrast. I have to be honest - I initially had a version with these vocals which fit that version very well - I had a more dense soundscape at that point and liked the match a lot - but the recording is much too short.

But then I came across SJ’s vocals through this track and was sold on them - I redid the track to match the new vocals and bam! :)

Thanks for leaving a review, even if you didn’t exactly love the track.

It’s dark, so for me you’re already halfway there. But you have managed to take it even further with your trademark ear for subtle detail. This is the second remix I have listened to including SackJo’s great spoken word piece since I included it in a tune I am working on at the moment. FB’s remix was the other one. I have to admit that I was thinking about replacing it, especially since both your remixes are so good. But I am far too lazy to look for something new to include, so apologies in advance for my lack of originality.

Thank you for that - very nice of you to say. I did spend a lot of time tuning the track after I had put down the basic building blocks - to make sure each part got their own chance to shine.

Re: your track - don’t replace whatever you’re doing. I trust your trademark ear to keep it in. :)

(Having said that - have a look at the pella I referenced in my reply to TheJoe above … it’s quite something)

I just saw an Edward Albee play and somehow this piece resonates with those same sensibilities. Nice work on the Atmospherics Mikael - and well produced. Susan’s spoken word nicely placed as contrast…enjoyed it.

I’m pleased as heck you use the word “enjoy”, because I wanted to make a track that’s listenable - and not make an academic point that puts enjoyment to the side. So thanks. :)

I admit I didn’t know Edward Albee from Ed Wood - embarrassing, because I love the movie version of “Who’s afraid …” - thanks for the reference.

I rather like that description. It’s not so much that it doesn’t go anywhere; it’s more that it saunters, and is easily distracted. :)

Very haunting and atmospheric. Reminds me of Rapoon which I like very much. I especially like the manipulated, crystalized strings.

truly fantastic sound design - I’d almost like to hear a version without any beats (how passive aggressive is that lol?). sac’s vox are little hot on my system (which I’m still tuning so who knows).

Hmm. I can’t remove the beats completely, because I used the full teru track. But you’re onto something. The parts I like the best are the relatively silent parts - so there’s something there.

Oh, and I would guess you’re right re: the vocals. This was made on my headphones. :)

Brilliant piece of classic Colab—I love how the piano at the end is so uplifting, a little burst of colour and clarity after all the darkness and haze.

Thank you, my good man; but the piano - like so much of this track - is all teru - I just glued the pieces together.

Thanks though. I’m glad you can see my signature in this, and appreciate you leaving a comment.

A lot of people have already commented on how well you did the dark atmosphere here, but that just can’t be said enough - it’s a very subtly creepy feeling, unusual and satisfying. The percussion/drums/beats/whatever you want to call them :) are absolutely perfect - spectacular job on those! Great song, great manipulation of the source material, well done

Thanks! The rhythms - yes. The main rhythms are all teru’s doing. For the bits I added I took a bunch of REX loops and then cut out specific chunks to make them less predictable - and also shifted positions by 1/8 in places. That can make for some interesting patterns at times. :)

Thank you!

I had to guess what “1A” meant (aside from the positive feedback). Google offers a few options, but the one I like the most is the one that defines 1A as the robot who raised “Magnus, Robot Fighter” in the comic by Russ Manning.

Yes, I like that a lot. :)

I just saw the comment of JH:

1A also means: premium, top level,
can_t be done better, superb, absolutely oitstanding, etc. etc. so i mean, this is highest compliment if not a 1A compliment!! ;-)
