Thank you!

I felt like I have been overdoing it with fairly messy soundscapes for the past few tracks and conciously tried to avoid that here. Glad you noticed!

I’ll happily overlook poor math when it results in such a nice review. Thanks! :)

Well, frigging big thanks to you. :)

The bass is actually two different basses - a Gibson and a Kay hollow body - both from the excellent Propellerhead bass refill for Reason.

I’ve been going back to listening to The Cure recently - especially the early albums like Faith and Pornography - and got inspired to use the bass for melodies. :)

Thanks for stopping by.

This is fabulous but for me please upload it without the percussion as well as I think it would be even more magical. Another idea is to remove all the percussion and replace the snare hits with handclaps.

Thank you.

The snare actually consists of both a snare/clap sound. I recorded the drums freeform (w/o quantizing) to keep them loose and let the other elements maintain order. :)

I’ll upload a sample pack of the various elements later in the week, and then you can go ahead and reconstruct it any way you like.

Thanks again.

Just a quick note to say that I just uploaded the sample pack.

A lot have been said about several elements of this piece, But no one has said anything about the guitars… For me the beauty of this pella, of course with the voice, are the guitars…. well done with that man…

Thanks for that!

Honestly, this guitar sample is a fairly cheap one, relatively speaking, but when you use it with effects it can sound pretty good.

Thanks for calling it out. :)

And just as I was going to say something nice about the unmentioned guitar….. Anyway, it’s good to hear that trademark subtleness of you again.

Well, thank you for that. After a period of experimenting with throwing a lot of noise into the mix, I was happy to work with a more stripped down sound image.

Glad you liked, and thanks for stopping by.

I second RT_s review in the point, that this track would be very magic even without drums. You understood to do a remix with just a few elements that are IMHO enough for a good song. Your choice for the guitar sample and the treatment(?) is nice and give just enough space and atmosphere for the track. Not easy to leave out much more instruments, noises or treacks but you had the discipline and the result is a very beautiful song with much space where everything works for the vocals and nothing against it.

Very nice one!!

Thank you - I appreciate that very much.

You know I like to play around with different styles, and I tend to vary it depending on the vocals - and here it just seemed wrong to add distorted drums and blips. :)

Thanks again for stopping by.

I am kind of wishing the vocal was synced more, i know you have generated this off time effect but at times its `in time’ and works.

The backing is very special i could write something new to that. :-)

I hear you, but by the time that idea got into my head I just couldn’t shake it. :)

Re: backing track - I just uploaded the instrumentals as a sample pack. Be my guest. :)

Oh, and thanks for the review. I do appreciate it.

well it took me a couple of listens. first listen I thought beautiful but agreed with LS on the vocals—-couple more listens and it all seemed quite natural. So i’ll just go with the beautiful. quite lovely indeed.

Thanks - glad you enjoyed.

Although seeing as how you wobbled in your opinion once already, I’m not convinced I can count on your support for long.

Ah well. So it goes. :)

the atmosphere is magical - although I was also wondering what it might sound like with “less cowbell” :-)

Ohhh … “cowbell”? That smarts. That’s a quality cymbal there; running freeform, doing its own thing - roaming where cymbals are rarely allowed to go in my tracks. :)

You are most welcome to reconstruct the track using the stems I uploaded. You know. Without the cowbells.

Thanks for leaving a note!

Lovely. I like the way the rhythm gradually assembles - and the way the voice floats over the top in an off-beat kind of way.

Thanks for leaving a comment - really appreciate it. This is what I was describing over beers re: doing a draft or a proof-of-concept of an idea; and to make lots of music and release often. :)

Thanks again.

Hey Colab…apologies that this is a late review but you did a stellar job on this mix. The timing is different and I had to get used to it at first but listening to it now i like! Love the chill feel it emits (spelling?). Great Job mate.

Thanks - I really appreciate the comments from you - especially considering I took some liberties with the source materials. :)

I just noticed you posted some more materials, so I’ll be excited to try out something different next.

Thanks again for stopping by.

Chill minimal - I really like what you do with the percussion (especially the ride). It is really hard to be this simple and hands off! Works really well.

Thanks! I knew that the basic idea was really simple - there’s really just a few things repeated throughout with variation of what parts are playing/muted, so I’ve been really pleased people have related to it so well.

Glad to see the rides get a mention. I knew they could create unease with a few people since they are not quantized, but at the same time I felt like they made the track a bit more human. :)

Thanks again.
