Quote: What can you do?
is that rhetorical? lol This is what is known as a “paste job”, a fine backing with a completely inappropriate vocal slapped on. it’s a shame, the backing is very moody and evocative. |

Well, in a word: no. Just for reference, none of the instrumentals in this track existed before last night when I started playing around with the vocals. The rhythms are pre-canned REX loops, but everything else I came up with to match this idea I had of what the vocals could sound like. So I suppose what it comes down to is one of two things on my end: poor musical taste; or poor production skills. :) |

or neither, I would claim this upload demonstrates interesting choices and cool production and taste, sorry I didn’t say that more clearly in the review.
maybe it’s just “a choice victor wouldn’t make” and nothing else. to my ears and sensibilities… it’s not a good match. |

I understand where Victor is coming from on this but I think the problem lies more with the production side than the idea of combining this type of accompaniment with the vocals.
It all sounded a little muddy to me and I think if things had been cleaner sounding the two elements would have merged together much better. |

Well, after reading what Colab wrote and the comments of the others, I thought that there would be something wrong with this song, but I for one cannot hear it. Maybe the timing and harmonies chosen are not what one would expect, but maybe that is just what makes this song so good for me. Highly recommended.

I really love the backing track - have you considered uploading it by itself (as a secondary file), so others could create something on top of it?

I guess I’m in the subliminal camp, I was expecting something that was obviously wrong but to my ears couldnt find it. I do think that the mix is ‘muddy’ as RT says but I found it in all to work quite well with the vocals. I still have to count up from C to find G so I am far from an expert on harmonies etc but for what its worth I liked it.

well, I wrote about 13 reviews in an hour yesterday so my initial may have been whipped out quickly, but I just listened again and it’s still problematic.
I love the reverb drenched guitar (!) and piano and I think the fact that he rolled off the eq on the drums totally works for me. again, no big deal as it’s just my impression, I happen to like singing that’s ‘in the pocket’ both in key and time. The last thing I want to do is discourage this kind of talent from posting again. (well, ok, maybe the last thing I want is another stalker because I went against the popular grain in a review, but the 2nd to last thing is to discourage) |

You are not alone. I love the backing track, but my ears can’t make the connection to the vocal track - rhythmic feel, chords and fx. Maybe I’m dating myself with old fashioned musical values?
Disclosure: I was one of the people mentioned in the notes. :-) |

Hahaha - no worries. I’ve always appreciated honest feedback on my tracks. One of the last things I want is to make something that generates no feedback whatsoever because it’s so bland. :) |

For the opening: I was the second person mentioned in the notes:-)
I made the same propose as Spinmeister in my pre-review. You should upload the instrumental, because it is so wonderful. I mentioned too, that the phrasing of the vocals and the instrumental don_t match so perfectly. I don_t feel so much that there is an issue of harmonisation. Now I understand too what Radiotimes mentioned. The sound of the instrumental and the vocals are a bit of different EQ worlds. With a little treatment of the vocals here and there the main issue s would be fixed quickly. Now after a few listenings more, I would say despite of a few discussable things, it is sort of beautiful track though. More of this! |

Well, hello there! I wondered when you might wander around this-a-way… I’m really liking the mood and textures here, maybe what could be unsettling is the tension created by the mixture of languid and brisk, and moments of implied harmonic resolution. The vox sits a bit too “unmolested” against your backing for me, but maybe that contrast was intentional… Good to see you here; hope you stick around!
