This is a truly outstanding track - the two styles match perfectly - and not just an issue of mashing two tracks together, but also great sensibilities in letting the track cool down and heat up again. Excellent stuff.

I’d like to see more comment though on “how I did it” - e.g., where did the backing track come from, etc.

Doesn’t change the fact that it absolutely blew me away though.

Hi colab….first up, nice to meet you. Thank you for the comments…really helps the old ego…lol…and it definitely needed that at the moment ;)

I’d not noticed the ‘how I did it’ feature until your comment, but i do walk around with blinkers on…lol. For anyone interested I actually only play keyboard and that is self-taught…so often i don’t know what i’m doing as much as simply doing things that sound okay to me. This track was originally a jazz track that i was working on called ‘bang bang’…all the elements in the track are broken down two-bar and four bar samples (and even with my own keyboard i convert the playing to samples in acid so that i can use them over and over again with different keys and tempos rather than replaying)…I don’t really know what else to add as i’m not a musician like most of you excellent guys/gals in here. I actually did nothing to the vocal other than extend it a little…and the mastering (which i think is wrong and one of my constant struggles) is all achieved virtually by chaining a stereo imager/beatmodel optiEQ/C4 compressor/waves rennaissance compressor and finalised with the L3 multimaximizer.

I hope i answered a couple of your question and thank you for taking the time to listen and comment ;)

Hi MC Jack…nice to meet you as well. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment m8. I’m really chuffed that people are generally enjoying it…i’m still a little unconvinced by bits BUT i guess that’s the lot of the producer…lol ;)

This is awesome. Sounds like Forensic on a serious jazz session. Great live feel and backings. Agree with colab, would like to know how you did it and if you played all these instruments?

Hi TheJoe…another new person to me and i’m glad to meet ya ;)

Hopefully answered a couple of your questions in my reply to colab. thanks for taking the time…i’m also really pleased you got the kind of vibe i was going for…i really liked the idea that they actually rapped freestyle during a jam session. Anyone that actually knows me in the real world in the UK knows that i work with young people in a youth club environment and most of the best stuff they ever do is done freestyle when they feel rather than over analyse and try…hope that made sense…lol ;)

This track is a nice contrast to a lot of the easy listening type of stuff i heard here. I’m not that big a fan of the vocal part maybe could use some more production, I don’t know. But the beat is really great good work.

hi Jonas,
nice to meet you m8…I’ll see if i can upload it…i’m still a bit naive when it comes to the netiquette of the site so i’m not sure if i’d be permitted another track on top of the three i already have up ;)

I agree with the others, great mix - how about uploading the instrumental track separately?

This is a great idea and despite your reservations a very pro sounding piece of work.

Wow, 2 pretty different styles, thrown in together in a way that pulls the listener in. One listens, one eye brow raised with intense intrigue, almost waiting for something to sound not quite right with the words ‘yeah I knew this didn’t go’ - the brains automatic response just queued up on the tongue… but no!… this works in a way which the listener has never heard before… the brain gets confused… victory for the experimental musician!… Ace mix.

one can really imagine this being a live improvisational performance. Very cool!
