Amazing sounds and composition. Are you singing back-up backwards? : )

The Broken vocals sound too fast to me though. Especially during the half BPM portion. Is that just me?

The BPM business was tricky and perhaps I have failed. My mix was at 86, the original I believe at 68, I left some ‘unwarped’ but then sped them up for the more drummy bits. I felt as if it were fluid enough but apparently not. I do not have much experience mixing others’ vocals, so it was exasperating to say the least. I have three trifonic vocal tracks, one of which is a rhytm tracks made by splicing the harmonics a million times and turning them into beats. I am singing back up, and in reverse, I sang nonsense turkish words with a french accent so it was nearly unrecognizable as language, merely sound. I put amelia through reverse at the end as well. I am bummed about the BPM shifts, I guess I have to stop being so lazy and quit singing my own shit.

Oh hey. That was my opinion only. I’d trust your intuition more.

“turkish words with a french accent”

Oh that’s why. If it was French with a Turkish accent I might have had a chance. ; )

Nice treatment! The backing mix really works great here. And I love the double time kick up too. This is a serious headphone mix with the tremelo you got going on here. Love the birds and the filters and the vocal slices. That is a kickin groove you got going on, and the vocal pans and sweeps really bring it out. Great stuff!

hey MCJITB
thank you
I always feel more naked when remixing other vox (weird, eh?) and less in control. I was really happy with the drum bits in that last bit, thanks for noticing

Wonderfully non-simple as usual; I’m not detecting any real sync issues myself. The only thing I felt was missing was a crescendo of some sort, before pumping off into the sunset of the faster feel of the latter half. But that’s just me; I’m not trying to be sand in your swimsuit- I wouldn’t bother if I didn’t enjoy your approach to remixes!

Agreed Mr D. I think it meandered a bit myself and is partially unrealized- I had a more realized one but ableton decided to mute the whole thing- don’t know why. Sand in the swimsuit brings back terrible memories of my sister and I, the lake Michigan undertow, and sand in uncomfortable areas so severe it hampered our normally skipping and happy gates.

Hey kaer, your producer skills are better each day your remixes are weird, very strange layers in this one. Keep your creativity up, this is a good job, and the atmospheres are very good for the meaning of the song, maybe a little more “I’m broken choir” across the song would be better to give that nostalgic feel.
I liked, another different travel…

this means tons coming from you- I know you were a production critic and one of the ones who drove me to betterness. Yes, always weird. Funny because fourstones was just lamenting (my words) in an interview how pedestrian (paraphrasing) he thought the trifonic mixes were, mainstream even. Now I will have a listen at yours…
