Great playing
BTW can you upload the sax sample itself?

Unfortunately no,
I was hesitant to even play sax on CCMixter in the first place. That’s the first time I’ve played for free in over 10 years. I just have to draw the line somewhere on what I give away, I need to eat. I hope you understand.

I understand. Though I realise that what we give here are the things that may remain longer after we progress to the other side. We simply can’t take anything ‘to eat’ with us there ;-)

But that works on the presumption that that the reason I play is to make others happy…

Yes Dave, that’s right ;)

I’m very impressed with your sax playing. You are very talented. A gift like that is supposed to make others happy, if you like it or not. Music never exists without an audience.

Wow, that’s some damn fine sax playing and a very pleasant trio listening experience.

I’d like to second the request for sax upload.

By the way, I’ve used your ewi in Funky Blessing. In case you don’t have your notifications set for ‘notify when I’ve been remixed’. (Of course if you do and you’ve heard it and you didn’t like it… well… sorry, forget I mentioned it.)

See above reply on the sample.
About your Funky Blessing, you brought it up, so let’s talk about it. I thought it was an effort, but I really couldn’t listen to it past about 30 seconds in. I see a trend with remixers slapping a bunch of random samples together in a way that really doesn’t have any musical cohesion. The way they get away with it is to slap a beat under it. Even dissonant music has to have cohesion with sounds brought together with a purpose. Now I’m guilty of doing this as much as the next person, but it seems to prevail here.
Just because one is “mixing” the end result still has to be music. Music moves you, it stirs the soul. Much of the mixes I hear lately do neither and sound like someone mixed a bunch of random stuff together without thought. I understand thet this is a a place to experiment with new ideas. That’s great, you have to produce quantity to be able to produce quality; It’s essential in music.
Now Please don’t take this personally, I’m sort of on a general rant, not aimed at you or your music. It’s just that when I see so many thumbs up on a track that isn’t very good, it reflects poorly on the people who voted and sung it praises. They’ve compromised their musical taste to be in a “Good ol’ boys club”—“I’ll vote for you of you vote for me” And that is the most detrimental thing a musicians can do to themselves, sell out for social popularity. In fact now that I’m used to the system, I can see in an instant who the sell out are because they vote for everything. So short answer, I just didn’t like it. That’s fine. It’s fine if someone doesn’t like mine either. That’s not why I’m here; I’m here for the music.

I think I’ll prove my point. I’m going to start writing bad reviews for songs that merit them. I can almost guarantee that the likes on my music will plummet. That will be a clear indicator of what is going on. It’s not about the music on CCMixter, it’s about the popularity.

So - you think that the six people that left positive remarks about Funky Blessing, three of which were a part of it, and all of which are musicians (I mean real musicians, like you, not just wannabes with a DAW, like me) are lying? I find that hard to believe. Isn’t it possible that you and the seven of us just have different thresholds when it comes to ‘musical cohesion’?

I think you need to re-read what I wrote especially the part about it being a general rant and not about you or your music. You can’t take stuff so personally, it’ll kill ya if ya do. I’m saying that the same people typically vote for each other all the time. The fact that you asked me to vote for you because you sampled me exposes an insecurity you have in your music. I’m not telling you this to put you down or dis you, I’m trying to help you. I’ve had bad stuff published about me before. If I took it personally I’d have a bullet in my head and not even be here now. Loosen up dude. But yeah, I think people who vote up music that doesn’t deserve it have bad taste in music and I don’t respect them. That’s how I feel. Get over it, it doesn’t affect you one bit (At least it shouldn’t)

I’m confident enough in what I do not to be significantly affected by it. You might also read more carefully what I wrote. I did not ask you to ‘vote for me’ and I specifically said “…if you’ve heard it and you didn’t like it… well… sorry, forget I mentioned it”.

Thanks, sorry it to me so long to respond, It’s been nuts over here in the studio. CCM had to be set aside for a while.
