Tools I Used

Completely produced, arranged, mixed and mastered in Reason. No beat slicer on this one, everything was banged out on the keyboard (KONTROL 49... love it)

Samples I Used

Sax riff is from the hmp summer pack refill.

Original Samples

In the beginning of the track I used a sample of some gritty vinyl just for that "drop the needle on the record" effect. Everything else was original using sampled instrument sounds from the Reason Factory Sound Band and the Orkester Sound Bank.

Process

This project was a little different then what I usually do. I never heard the original "Remember The Name" until after I had the foundation of the tracks laid out to go with the vocals.

The first step was just getting a beat that I thought fit with the lyrics, something just to get me started. The vocals all seemed to run together really tight with hardly and space between breaks or hooks so I thought I need a melody or undertone that didn't fight with the vocals.

There are some very subtle (maybe too subtle) pizzacatto strings and violin stabs that were supposed elevate the excitement but fell off in the final mix.

Other Notes

I may work on cleaning up the final mix and bringing up some of the string sounds. I'm not sure if they're even noticebable as they come in. I went for subtle but like some comments rightly mention, maybe too subtle.
