Tools I Used

GarageBand 2011, Fender Telecaster, Korg NanoKey2

Samples I Used

I used the piano and vocal from Snowflake's "Soul Wants to Grow"

Original Samples

I created drum, organ, three guitar, and four vocal tracks.

Process

Upstairs (not in the studio) I horsed around with the track to see if I could do anything with it. Played the drums on the NanoKey2 using just kick, snare, and ride - nothing else. Added an organ part, also using the NanoKey2.

Gpt committed at this point, went down into the studio, and added the three guitar parts (using the virtual amps in GarageBand, using the Low down Blues preset), and then added four ooh-ahh vocals to give it a stereo field.

Other Notes

I wanted to preserve the emotional context of this piece, so there's no quantizing or auto-tuning in it anywhere... just carefully aligned natural parts. It is a beautiful song, and I wanted to do it justice. Hope I did!
