This song, “Mermaid”, was penned during a recent Caribbean journey & written as part of the “Jeeves & Wooster in Lounge-Hop-Land” song cycle:for Moira Waugh and J. Lang, both of whom inspired me to create the lyrics. J’s melodic and free-flowing music and Moira’s wonderful vocals really enhance the overall atmosphere…a fantasy of King Neptune’s realm.

Lyrics:

(Anchor)
Sweet song of Sirens
Led me to the Islands
To a Mermaid who lives there
A scallop crown in her raven hair.

(Anchor)
She’s no mythology
Her home is deep under the sea
Her old Dad is King Neptune,
I guess I’ll have to ask him soon
“Can your daughter Sir, please be mine?”
Don’t turn your Trident on my behind”

(Moira:)
“Sailor man, meet me at high tide
In my sea horse car we’ll go for a ride
To the Dolphin-Bar …We’ll stop for a drink,
Singapore-Sling …We’ll be in the pink!
That Octopus with his tattooed arms…
Is the barman there…And his reach is far.
We can find a nice secluded spot
Or a starfish stool or a coral reef cot.”

(Anchor)
“Oh sweet Mermaid
Let me shed my woes.
Can I breathe down there…
In the deeps below?”

Moira:
“With a magic touch of a treasured ring,
Oh sailor man, you needn’t fear a thing”
And if you start to feel like we might capsize
On a flying fish to the top we’ll rise….”

(Anchor)
We’ve lived here long in Calypso’s realm
And I brown and tan my best friend’s a Seal
And of my Mermaid with her rosy cheeks
And shinning scales, I dare not speak
For if other Sailors hear of she…
They will surely try to replace me!

Sailing, sailing, over the bounding main,
For many a stormy wind shall blow ‘ere I come home again….

(Both Anchor & Moira:)
The sailor’s life is bold and free;
His home is on the rolling sea,
And never heart more true or brave,
Than he who sails the bright blue waves …

Ending: knock knock knock “Moira I’m home…whats for dinner, not scallops again I hope….ooooouch….stepped on adamn sea urchin!
