Every so often I feel the need for some unbridled play. Sometimes I wonder if I may be seen as some effete intellectual in a velvet jacket playing cello in my ivory tower. Nothing could be farther from the truth, In fact, I exist in a coarser, more earthy persona, tattooed and gregarious, with a large dollop of prankster added for spice. Its also fun to do something spontaneous and not overly produced (in this case only voice and guitar and no effects).
In this offering I get to let my inner-sailor out (although he isn’t too repressed in reality).
When I heard MC Jack In The Box’s’s guitar sample, it seemed to fit perfectly with my lyric (one of many sailor song’s I’ve beget) “The Sea-dog’s Lament”.
So here it is - in one take and after a pint (or so)…..Aaaaaaaar!

Lyrics:

Woke up on the tavern floor
saturday at a half past four
saw her shadow in the door
reached out my hand and I begged for more

sweat and grime
on the salty dock
ain’t got no shoes
ain’t got no socks
a sunburned back and a rose tattoo
a splittin’ headache
and a thirst for you

my life is rough and full of strife
the one’s I loves
are far behind
no freinds or family anymore
I roam from shore to distant shore

the heckling birds
mock my plight
the ocean spray wash my tears at night
ain’t got nuthin’ I can call my own
except a pict’cer of a girl from home

when I die
I’ll be lowerd down into the arms of Davy Jones
don’t sing no dirge for the likes of me
I’ll be a ghost in the deep blue sea………..
