Why I Sample
uploaded: Tue, Mar 14, 2006 @ 8:17 PM
My 3-minute tribute to the art of sampling in it’s various forms- from classic electroacoustic tape & cutup to dj/turntablism theory to field recording aesthetic and noise.
“Why I Sample” opens with voice clips from The “Copyright Criminals” source files. Most of the film samples were recontextualized through cutup. Snippets with camera/snapshot sounds leads into a nuevo-brazilian style rhythm. The dark ambient middle section is built from turntable, rhythm samples and floating synth textures. Building to a musique concrete drone through the use of field recordings, industrial noises and ending with more snippets.
